Geoinformatician / modeller

Your tasks

  • You will be responsible for projects for our international clients.
  • You will conduct geo-based analyses and develop geo-based and other models and tools for the exposure or risk assessment for chemical products.
  • You participate in internal research projects and trainings.
  • We expect a high degree of responsibility and self-organized work, but always help you to further develop your personal and technical skills. We offer a very flexible working environment.

Your profile

  • You have a degree in the geo-informatics, informatics or a comparable area (or you can demonstrate your knowledge and experience in geo-modelling otherwise).
  • You have a good knowledge and experience in the development of GIS-components and workflows using Esri ArcGIS (Desktop, Pro) and Open Source GIS (z.B. QGIS).
  • You have good programming skills in Arcpy and at least one other, object oriented programming language (preferably C++). Furthermore, you are able to evaluate data with R.
  • You are familiar with database programming with SQL (e.g. Access, mySQL, etc.).
  • You are interested in ecological questions and you find solutions even to complex questions.
  • Your working style is structured, target-oriented and you can plan your work autonomously. You take responsibility and good communication skills.
  • You are keen to constantly learn new tools and subjects.
  • You are happy to contact with clients (currently only online) and explain complex analyses in simple words.
  • Good command of office software and of English (e.g. preparation of scientific texts) is a requirement.

Experienced Ecotoxicologist

Your tasks

You will be responsible for ecotoxicological risk assessments of chemical products, according to national and EU guidelines. Risk assessments cover mainly European bird and mammal species, but also other organisms. Your tasks include the support of clients in the preparation of risk assessment strategies, the preparation of reports and risk assessment dossiers and the training of new colleagues. You present new risk assessment approaches at conferences or workshops.

We expect a high degree of responsibility and self-organized work, but always help you to further develop your personal and technical skills. We offer a very flexible working environment.

Your profile

You have a strong ecological background and good knowledge of European wildlife. You are curious and find unconventional solutions, but you are always very target-oriented. You take responsibility. You have a reliable working style and good communication and social skills. A good background in statistics and in R is desirable. Fluent English (in spoken and written) is a requirement.

Ecological/ecotoxicological modeller

Your tasks

a) Ecological/ecotoxicological modelling:
You will be responsible for projects supporting the risk assessment of chemical products using ecological and ecotoxicological models and you develop new models yourself. Models include deterministic models, probabilistic models, population models and others (e.g. for birds, mammals, arthropods or others). You present models and new approach at conferences or workshops.
b) Ecology:
You analyse ecological data (e.g. literature, proprietary or other) in order to understand ecological mechanisms, which can be deduced from underlying data. These can be used for risk assessment and/or modelling purposes. The main focus will be on birds and mammals, but also other areas will be covered.

Your profile

We are looking for a senior and a junior ecological modeller (two positions).

Senior ecolocial/ecotoxicological modeller

  • You have a strong ecological background (e.g. a PhD or M.Sc. in respective areas) and you have a thorough programming experience (e.g. C++, Perl, Java). You are curious and find unconventional solutions, but you are always very target-oriented. You take responsibility. You have a reliable working style and good communication skills. Fluent English (in spoken and written) is a requirement.
  • Knowledge of GIS software programming is an advantage, but not a necessity.

Junior ecolocial/ecotoxicological modeller

  • You have a degree in biology, agronomy or in a similar area
  • You have good programming skills (optimally in C++)
  • You are interested in complex ecological questions
  • You are willing to contstantly learn new skills
  • Your working style is structured and target-oriented
  • You are a responible person, you know how to plan your work
  • Good command of English (e.g. preparation of scientific texts) is a prerequisite.
